at a recent session a tune I love was played. I recorded it on my mobile phone, then set the tune as my new ring tone. Now every time somebody call me on my moible phone, the tune plays. I find this a very effective way of learning, as the tune is always playing in the background of my mind. When I have the tune off, I might do it again with a new tune....
just thought I would share this in case anybody else wants to try!
cheers
My ringtone is bagpipes playing Scotland the Brave.
Sounds great in Church.......I figure the good folks in the pews won't kill me but they do give murderous looks!

What a great idea. Almost worth giving up being an atheist for!
i learned 3 slow airs i recorded to my phone a few years ago, was putting down a floor for a few days and just left the phone playing them out loud, by then end, all three of us were whistling the airs at lunch time!
probably of no use to me. I try not to give out my number, I like my privacy.
I give everyone Herself's number- it was our old land based phone number and we ported it to her cell. She gets so p****d with me when the calls come in!
I almost do that. I've recorded or found a clip of each of my session mates playing some ITM on "their" instrument and have set each one's custom ring tone to themselves playing. So when they call I instantly know who it is because I hear them playing weekly.
For Herself I've used our yappy dog barking. I sometimes don't hear the music rings if I've got other tunes playing, but I ALWAYS hear the dog barking.

I recorded a muiñeira and set the tune as my ring tone. I'm starting to hate it.

I thought we were talking about mobile phones, not séances.

Nobody likes me enough to ever ring my mobile, so it wouldn't work for me

Re: new way of learning a tune
Yeah, it's a good job I already know Lucy Campbell. I'd never learn it if I'd have to wait for people to ring me up. B*stards.

My ringtone is "My Lovely Horse"
Maybe one day I'll play it at a session...

Re: new way of learning a tune
Without a doubt "My lovely horse" is one of the most inspired Irish tunes of all time. It should have won Eurovision.

Re: new way of learning a tune
I was in the Church of The Holy Nativity in March, when some idiot's phone started blaring out "The Jenny Lind Polka". Guess whose?
