Yes, SWFL - your point is well made. I cannot think of many circumstances where a person wakes up one day with a gnawing urge to run out and learn Gamalong music. How many traditional South Korean Music pubs have sprung up in your neighborhood? Do people regularly gather to play Ethnic Serbian tunes nearby? I mean no disrespect to these fine folk music traditions, but you must admit, the music of the Irish and Scots seems to find people all over the world. It's almost as globally popular as rap music!
I've never met a djembe player I wouldn't swap for any one of these fine lasses. Heck I'd swap some of our regulars, much as I love them, for the pipa or erhu players.
Well, the traditional music in East Asia isn't very different from the traditional music in Scotland and Ireland. Even a Chinese friend of mine told me "Bonaparte Crossing the Alps" sounded Chinese to him. And don't you know Auld Lang Syne used to be Korean national anthem?
When I was in Japan I woke up one morning hearing what I thought was 'Coming through the Rye' on the whistle. It turned out to be the road crossing, which was quite confusing. Also the kids said that they sang Auld Lang Syne to Japanese words and thought it was a traditional Japanese tune. Maybe it is.
Although I'd cheerfully swap out session regulars and good freinds for the exotic and impossibly glamourous members of Xi'An Si. Until the supply of Paddys, Tams and Allys runs out, those session members that are already immpossibly glamourous (albeit less exotic) needn't worry overly much.
Another thought, could you imagine if the lasses from Xi’An Si popped in here on seeing their band name and found a thread that degenerated into male strippers?
I don't know about swapping Thug and captain Bpart for exotic female musicians but Bad Santa and political guitarist........ Any offers?

Yeah Jusa, it blows my mind! I can't understand the attraction, but I can certainly appreciate it, fair play to them and all that.
...and hey, it is an interesting fusion, I suppose. Not any worse than a djembe, eh?

Re: The Xi’An Si
Perhaps it's all connected somehow, deep in the mists of time, in some pre-historic Indo-European-Asiatic way.
Or maybe I should just get a cup of coffee and go back to work.

Oh I think good american female pipers are exotic or at least rare

Re: The Xi’An Si
I wouldn't trade Paddy, Tam, or Ally for impossibly glamorous women.
And obviously all the guys at the session are impossibly glamorous as well so no point in trading them for a troupe of chippendales.
# Posted on May 14th 2009 by TheSilverSpear
Re: The Xi’An Si
I would trade them all in a heartbeat! (And I don't even know Tam!)

I'm glad someone agrees Americans understand irony!
I don't suppose you're looking to trade Thug and Captain B Part for exotic, glamorus women as well. Seems to be going around...

Re: The Xi’An Si
Chippendales? Don't you have enough furniture at your local session?(he said jokingly) Besides, Chippendale was supposed to be English, wasn't he?

Re: The Xi’An Si
Hmmm... a session full of chairs from Leeds or a bunch of male strippers..... which sounds like more fun?
:P
# Posted on May 14th 2009 by TheSilverSpear
Re: The Xi’An Si
Why limit yourself? Sit on the chairs, surrounded by strippers, off you go then!
