Make sure you count your change whenever you buy anything and remember that american retail sales tactics are a little faster than even a skilled Irish hawker, with his boot in your door, could manage.
Having said that it's such a diverse continent with great contrast between areas. It's not like our wee corner where the view changes round every corner, North America is vast and views take hours or even days to change. Just ask the locals IME, their usually more than happy to point you in the right direction to sites of interest.
Not sure how long I can go for... but will definitly try and make the most of it.
@ Donough... thanks man... yeah that was me. Not usually the sort of thing i'd do. But when our dance group decided to enter the comp I went along for the ride. It was a great experience tho... and gives a real insite into what happens behind the camera.
There is a Sunday night session in the town of Sonoma. Just guessing here, but maybe, the fiddle camp people bump up the session quality a fair bit. Yosemite's a lovely place. Day pass for one week is twenty dollars.
Off hand, I do not know the overnight camping rate. The Park Service likes to get reservations from the overnighters. California's a big place, with lots of beauty spots. Yosemite is just one of many. Have a good trip, what ever you decide to visit out our way!
Davydd - be sure to visit San Francisco; it's a beautiful city. Great sessions at the Plough and Stars in SF. Feel free to contact me when it's closer. Will you have time to travel much? VOM looks like they have a great staff this year. I sure hope we get to hear Liz Carroll play while she's here. Have a great time!

Hey... I'm heading over to the USA later this year (End of August) to attend Alasdair Fraser's fiddle camp.
As this is my first time to America I was wondering if there was anything worth while seeing while i'm over there? Sessions? Places of Interest?
Any session.orgers going to VOM?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bring your surgical face mask and hand soap....
Definitely go see the redwood trees in northern California, and Yosemite Nat'l Park isn't too far away, either.
