Rules and requirements for the Bodhran in the Fleadh?
Rules and requirements for the Bodhran in the Fleadh?
Hello,
This year, I am entering the Fleadh with the Bodhran for the first time.
Could someone tell me where to find the rules or requirements for this competition?
For example, Is there any limitation for what instrument accompanies me?
What kinds of tunes do I need to prepare?
Is it like other competitions where for example six tunes are submitted to the judge and they will bick between two and four of them?
Re: Rules and requirements for the Bodhran in the Fleadh?
I sat through most of the Bodhran competition on saturday at the Fleadh in '08, and the judge was always listening to it in the context of the other instrument so make sure the tunes are ones that your accompanist can belt out really well.
...and I found it really funny that one guy practically played a whole tune on the rim of the drum. he got slated for it. bottom line is that whatever you do on the hornpipe will make or break you.

You will find all the rules on the CCE website.....Check out bodojo.com too. Loads of info on bodhrans there.
If under 18 you need 3 types of tunes, over 18s need 4.-eg: reel, jig, hornpipe, march-
Any instrument can do it with you.

Any instrument - or a whistler or lilter!
(By the way, I think you're accompanying them, SlowAndSeteady!)
