Ged came to our local session a couple of years ago and impressed us all with his fiddle playing - he lifted the whole session from the moment he sat down. Andre Brunet's a great guitar player too!
We'll be having Ged for a concert at IAANJ in Rockaway NJ 10/3 if anyone is nearby. Or even far...worth the trek...and it's a wonderful house party atmosphere with good food and a session after. Send a PM to get on the email list for our events.
I didn't know Ged was now a fiddler. I've heard him play on his more long-standing instruments - and sing - every now and then since the mid-70s, when he played gigs with Jez Lowe round Durham. Fine musicians both.
Add me as another fan of Ged's all around musicianship and personality. See also http://www.myspace.com/gedfoley for another taste of his fiddling. His one man show is delightful...and he's great at any after-concert session!!! He and Andre showed up after a Celtic Fiddle Festival show during a blizzard in our area in 2007 and played until the wee hours; and Ged did the same after a stop on his solo tour last fall. He's not at all afraid of socializing with the locals...
I was in a session in the Old Ground In Ennis a few years back, and Ged was playing fiddle. I just didn't realise who he was because he was playing fiddle instead of guitar. I said I was sure we's met somewhere and he suggested a few places, none of which were right.
It was only a few days later that the penny dropped and I realised who he was. His face was familiar because I'd seen him on stage with Patrick Street at home in England a couple of weeks previously.
I agree with the posters above. A nice guy and a nice fiddler too.
Speaking of Paul Smyth, he appeared unannounced at the St. Louis TionĂ³l and played a set with Michael Cooney and Ged on fiddle.
Ged, doing all the speaking on-mic, announced that Paul has
a new CD out, but didn't mention if, as with the earlier one, he
produced it or played on it.
The earlier, eponymous Paul Smyth CD is a masterpiece of understatement. IMO. And I'm excited to hear the new one.

Re: Ged Foley the fiddler
Ditto - a great session fiddler and not in the least snobbish.

Re: Ged Foley the fiddler
Saw him at Celtic Connections this year playing with the Battlefield Band - current line-up and the line up from Home is Where the Van Is.
In the course of the gig he played guitar, fiddle and Northumbrian Pipes - possibly mandolin or bouzouki as well. I can't quite remember.
I always used to love going to House Band gigs. Great stuff altogether.

Re: Ged Foley the fiddler
When Ged lived in Ohio he would often play with fiddler Sandy Jones. If you have the chance to hear them together, it's a wonderful treat.
At last year's Dublin, Ohio, Irish Festival, Ged and Sandy played with guitarist Rick Nelson and it was truly exhilarating.
I am also a great fan of Ged's work at his "day job," guitar playing.

He appeared as a fiddle player on Paul Smyth's flute album some years ago.
