Music of the travellers

does there exist in any sort of organised format or compilation of sheet music of , The music of the travellers.(Irish Travellers) Past two tunes I have leant I am told are travellers tunes. Swallows tail from Dervish Spirit album played on an Eb Flute..and that slow tune from Paddy Keenans Long Grazing acre album which isnt listed on this site it seems #.
In addition are ther particular charicteristics associated with Travellers tunes ie ADorian etc?..Are there other popular tunes that could be classified as Traveller tunes??

Re: Music of the travellers

I don't know anything about any sheet music but if it's the music of the travellers your wanting to learn get a copy of The Raineys http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display/2422 ; and Travellers and fellow Travellers - Keepers of the flame
http://www.mustrad.org.uk/reviews/travelrs.htm

I think you can still get them here http://www.paveepoint.ie/publications-culture.html for €20 each. Well worth the price.

Re: Music of the travellers

While not strictly Irish, the English Folk Dance and Song Society www.efdss.org has published a volume of Travelers music that has some common tunes to the Irish tunes in the above links

Traveller’s Joy: Songs of English and Scottish Travellers and Gypsies 1965-2005: Compiled by Mike Yates; musical transcriptions by Elaine Bradtke; editorial assistance by David Atkinson and Malcolm Taylor; audio recordings by Mike Yates.
