Howya
The first Irish Fiddle records I heard, & started my obsession with ITM were records by Jimmy Power & Sean Maguire.
The Power record I had didn't have a sleeve,,,& I think it was made partly for dancers to perform with..it had these tunes on it for sure, but not perhaps in this order Doon/Rakish Paddy--Dowd's Favorite/Bunch of Keys/Idle Road/Contentment is wealth/Westmeath/Derry slip jig, some nice Set Dances, Tatter Jack Walsh,Jenny's welcome to charlie.....you know it if you know it .can't remember the record Co..but .anyone know if its been reissued on CD?...or if someone could burn me a CD???
The Maguire ones I'd like to track down are ,
first,
The Music of Ireland 4 Start Quartet one...the one with the river running on the cover Photo...its been awhile(35 years) , but tunes would include,,,..Killkenny Races.Sligo maid, reconciliation,Bells of St Louis,Reidy Johnston,Mathematician,Masons Apron,I believe it was Avocca, or Avocet label.
Also by Maguire..."Sean Maguire Plays" with Josepheen Keegan on Piano . Cover is a wicker chair, his fiddle and a cigarette in an ashtray.
Tunes would include Dowd's/ Col' Frazier...some very serious hornpipes, Snowy Breasted Pearl,Bonny kate & Jennys chickens.
If anyone has an idea if they might have been put on Cd , or you have some way to put it on CD for me ...I would be eternal grateful.
Would swap for Across the Pond CD...though not in same league as Sean & Jim ) or pay whatever
Quite a difference between the styles...but each captured my heart about 35 years ago.... & i MISS those recordings
Hope someone can help
Cheers

Re: Looking for old recordings..Jimmy Power, Maguire
Hi the Jimmy Power solo LP has not been reissued as a CD , I tried to get it and inquired.I have a Jimmy Power solo LP (Cream Cover ) it might be Topic or Leader label , Havn't seen it in years but it is in the house somewhere.I remember it had the strayway child on it and a couple of reels with a guy playing the bodhran very loudly (but very well strangely enough ! ) one of them was the Tempest..Reg Hall produced it I think and played piano on a lot of it. I will have a root around for it when I buy one of those yokes that plays lps into your pc so you can convert them to cd.
Re: Looking for old recordings..Jimmy Power, Maguire
I also have an old solo LP of Maguire somewhere , it had the gun in the thatch and the sailors bonnet as a pair on it , he kept switching from one reel to the other and back again .I'll have a look

Re: Looking for old recordings..Jimmy Power, Maguire
Did you look in the "Recordings" section, Roger ? Check the track listings, and if the recordings you're looking for are there, get in touch with the person who posted it, as there's a good chance they will have a copy.
Re: Looking for old recordings..Jimmy Power, Maguire

Go to his profile in the "members" section. You have the option to send him a Private Message by email through the site.
Would I be right in thinking you once played at the Aberdeen Folk Club - late 70s / early 80s? - with Alistair Russell and Eithne O'Connor, or have I got that totally wrong ?
Re: Looking for old recordings..Jimmy Power, Maguire
kenny...idid go on a little tour to scotland with alistair right around that time...would it have been Aileesh O'Conner from Dundalk (gerry's sister)on fiddle & whistle?.
That wasn't the night I split the butt crack seam on my trousersfrom stem to stearn mid show, was it?..that was an interesting night ...if you were someone else , that is

Re: Looking for old recordings..Jimmy Power, Maguire
Roger B, I do intend to transfer that LP to CD, along with a few others. I don't know when, as I don't have the gear myself. I'll check with you then to see if you still want it.
Speaking of folk clubs, I used to help run a club in the back room of The King's Head, London. Jimmy Power and Bobby Casey played in the front of the pub on the same evenings. I can only blame my ignorant youth for making the wrong choice.
Re: Looking for old recordings..Jimmy Power, Maguire
I have a copy of the Four Star Quartet album as well as other pretty obscure Maguire stuff. Would be happy to copy for you. But please reply to my personal email only :
