Re: Frank Harte & Donal Lunny: Songs of Resistance 21 Sept
I was just visiting with Frank Harte, who I've known for maybe 20 years now, when I was in Dublin a few weeks ago. He was telling me about this gig, and he was a little worried about it. Not seriously worried, mind you, but a little worried. Anyone who knows Frank knows that he does not hold back in his choice of songs based on political or other considerations. If it's a good song, he sings it, regardless of who the audience might be. Given that this London gig focuses on political songs, he's figuring he might get in a bit of trouble based on the songs he'll be singing there.
I'd urge anyone who possibly can to go hear Frank. I wish I could go to this gig myself, but unfortunately I'm back in America now...

*Why* do these things always happen when I go away? There's also an album launch on Saturday 20th, for a singer called Terry Yarnell, at the White Horse in Bethnal Green. Haven't heard him but have heard good reports - and Frank Harte, I *know* is good! Will miss both!

Frank and Donal are already at work on the next album, which will be songs of the famine and emigration. When I saw Frank last month, he had completed the sleeve notes for the new album and was planning to go into the studio with Donal to record as soon as Donal got back from traveling abroad. Since they are doing a gig together, I guess that means he's back now...

Thanks, Aidan, for the tip-off.

The recent album "Napoleon" that they did together is brilliant, as is the "the year of liberty" album. Pity i don't live in London
