Drink up Thee Zider - (Diddlefied)
---------------------------------------------
Drink up yer Guinness,
Drink up yer Guinness,
For tonight we'll merry be -
We're all a-playin' diddley,
And getting rather tiddley,
The taties are half-mashed, and so are we!
Well, I'm doing my best for you Krick, but it doesn't look like your thread is attracting many takers ....
"Are they like Rolf Harris?" you ask, Hup. Well, Rolf Harris is an artist ... (amongst other things).
It hasn't been "Adge Cutler and the Wurzels" since May 1974, when Adge died after overturning his car at a traffic roundabout near Chepstow, South Wales. Rumour has it that drink might have something to to with it, so maybe a "p**s artist", in that respect.
Since then it's just been the Wurzels, but sadly never quite the same without Adge ....
Tossing aside posing and puling metropolitan popsters, they mounted the charts like - well - a frisky Holstein bull.
Rustic voices are very seldom heard in mainstream UK popular culture, taking the p*ss or otherwise. From its perspective, the countryside largely exists to supply moated manors for celebrities who've made it big, which they can turn into fantastic studios to go mad in.
Adge ruled!!
At least he did for me as a wippersnapper growing up in lovely rural Somerset..
I purty much wore out the Drink Up Thee...& Twice Daily record.
I used to know a Piano Accordian player , Pete Shuttler, from the Yetties, who played with them a good bit
Haven't thought of them in 30 years
oooh aarrr

Right on 'bout the Cider .
Good proper "Still" cider is out of this world with incredible flavour & aroma
I remeber going with my dad to get a smallish barrel every summer at this lovely old thatched farm house not far away.
All the old lads had big old strawberry cider noses like Carl Malden
They had everything from sweet to extra dry ,with dozens in between, & of course the Scrump' or rough cider,.which you could either drink or sprinkle of your chish n fips if the Sarsens malt was low
Decidering which to buy took dad & I quite a few tastes tests, & the farmer made wicked good gum tingling sharp cheddar to go with it
Fond memories indeed

Do you like Adge Cutler & the Wurzels?
Do you like Adge Cutler & the Wurzels?
It seemed an appropriate question in the wake of the Dylan one in respect of relevance to diddley.

Re: Do you like Adge Cutler & the Wurzels?
Ha! Here's another connection ....
Adge Cutler was born in Portishead, Somerset, England.
Portishead, Somerset was also the home of Fred E. Weatherley, the guy who wrote the words of that *Irish* song, "Danny Boy"
Portishead has a lot to answer for ...

Re: Do you like Adge Cutler & the Wurzels?
Dylan edged out the Wurzels if you're talking depth of lyrical allusions.
But I'll tell you this: Somerset or Devon cider is far superior to yer charred Guinness any day. Ahhh, scrumpy—lip-smackin.
