A Midsummernight's Dream

A Midsummernight's Dream

Hello everybody!
We're working on "A Midsummernight's Dream" in our drama group at school. I'm Puck and we decided that our Puck needs to play a bit on tin whistle from time to time. I used to play The Butterfly (almost nobody here connects this tune with sessions here, that's helpful ;) ), but I'd be happy to find another solution.

Any suggestions?
Something... i dont know... fairy-like?

Re: A Midsummernight's Dream

wow that was fast! Thanks for your suggestions.
I thought of "The King of the Fairies" too, the only problem is that the audience doesnt know the title! I've to imagine it in a mysterious forest.. I'll try it though.

Great that the title of the second one actually is "Midsummer night's dream", i wonder why i didnt look for that. But unfortunately it sounds too much like an irish tune in a pub than like the lonesome dreamy deedledee of Puck who already thinks of his next mischief. But good idea

Re: A Midsummernight's Dream

NOT The King Of The Fairies - it's a horrible, cliched, dull, depressing tune! I couldn't bear to think of it being inflicted on a lot of inoffensive parents etc. in Germany, or wherever you are... I've a better idea, an English Morris tune called Idbury Hill. It's easy enough, it's atmospheric, and as it's not in the Tunes base I'll put it in now: should be available tonight or tomorrow! (Or you might find it somewhere else...)

PK - 'Scuse my remarks on TKOTF - they're aimed at the tune, not you!

Re: A Midsummernight's Dream

Dreamy, eh? How about 'Song of the Books', 'Inisheer', or 'Le Canal en Octobre'- all kinda dreamy and wistful in their different ways.

Re: A Midsummernight's Dream

That's OK, nicholas- I, too, can be horrible, dull and depressing at times :)

Re: A Midsummernight's Dream

Henni - I've put Idbury Hill in the Tunes base - the ABCs are there, anyway. If you like it, it's normally played slower than an Irish polka - but I suppose Puck will do what he wants with it!

The tune comes from *fairly* near Shakespeare's country, by the way!

. . . sorry about the orchestration, but it's a good weird tune. OBD has a nice dreamy setting of it on 'FIT?', if you can find that.

Re: A Midsummernight's Dream

Sheebeg and Sheemore is supposed to have been inspired by the legend of a faerie battle - I'm sure it qualifies as "lonesome dreamy deedledee"

Re: A Midsummernight's Dream

How about Monaghan jig at a slower pace?
Or why not make up your own 'Puckish' tune? Lots of slides, bends, sharps and flats...
