I am wondering has anybody in the Dublin area bought one of these and if so would you be kind enough to let me meet up with you and have a look at it before I order one. To make things fair I have a Dave Freshwater (660mm) bouzouki STGĀ£380 if anybody wants a look at it.
Seanie, Simply the reason I am looking at NZ is the exchange rate, they are coming in very reasonable to the euro at the minute. Thanks for the 2 cents though.
Except I think you pay when it's ready, and who knows what the exchange rate will be in 3 or 4 months time ?
But it's still a lot quicker them waiting for a Stefan Sobell. Went on his website; comment from one noteable musician; "There's something wrong with this bouzouki - I can't put the f*****ng thing down !".
Well I'm biased as I know Davey Stuart but I have played several of his instruments over the years and they are all first rate.
speaking to friends of mine who have bought instruments off him he is a good bloke to deal with - he will accomodate your personal ideas on your instrument.
He has made instruments for both Donal Lunny and Andy Irvine and they are happy with them.
Looking at the Burgins instruments on his website they also look pretty good as well so I don't think you will make a bad choice either way.
Concerning the exchange rate - well the NZ economy has been depressed for years and I don't see it changing anytime soon. There is a reason why luthiers have longer waiting times....

Re: Paddy Burgin and Davy Stuart Bouzoukis
Hi,
I would go for the Stuart myself.
Nothing really bad to say about the Burgin bouzoukis, but I think the stuarts are better, but this is only my 2 pence.
Do you mind me asking why you are thinking of these two makers? So far away etc? Why not look closer to home?
All the best,
Seanie.

Re: Paddy Burgin and Davy Stuart Bouzoukis
I think the wait time on the Stuart is about twice as long as Burgin right now.
