Are there any uilleann pipes teachers in Chicago??
Are there any uilleann pipes teachers in Chicago??
I decided I want to learn how to play the uilleann pipes, so, does anyone know any teachers in Chicago area?? Or...where I would get pipes, probably to rent pipes actually because who knows how this might turn out.
Re: Are there any uilleann pipes teachers in Chicago??
Actually Flute86, Chicago is having a bit of a renaissance with the pipes which Kevin Henry and Pat Broaders seem to be in the forefront. I know Pat is South Side Beverly-a few blocks from me actually.
Kevin Henry I have only met in passing and I believe is a nearby suburb to Beverly.
But you couldn't do much better than either one. They are both superb musicians.
Renaissance? Uilleann pipers were always here, zippy, you just didn't know about them. There weren't always sessions around town and it's risky to take the pipes out to pub sessions during the winter months.
BTW Kieran O'Hare, Pat Cannady, Sean Ryan, and Brendan McKinney (north and west siders) aren't exactly chopped liver as pipers, either, although only some of them teach at the moment.
I've already responded to the original poster privately.

Kevin Henry, Pat Broaders, Kieran O'Hare, Pat Cannady.... There are undoubtedly many more. They started a Chicago Pipers club recently.
