Re: Wanted : grey paolo soprani

In recessions, people hang onto things of value and invest in counter-intuitive things that gain in value. I never would have though it but boxes seem to be following that.

Have you seen the price trend on good boxes and the old Sopranis over the past few years?

In fact, look at the prices on the better boxes this year compared to last. It you bought a good box last year you could have made 30%-35% on your investment!

Doesn't mean you can sell them quickly though. Most musicians are usually not independently wealthy unless they are supported by a sweet young thing with a rich daddy.

Re: Wanted : grey paolo soprani

have you considered the Grey jubilee three voice? great box. They are around €2400 new. Bobby Gardiner has one and its a cracker. A few other great players have bought them also and say they compete favourably with the old Paolos... You could pick one up second hand I'd say if you keep your eyes open. I have a C#/D one for sale if anyones interested.

Re: Wanted : grey paolo soprani

2400? You could get a good old red for that money

Re: Wanted : grey paolo soprani

True, you could get a nice red for that money but for some reason everyone wants the grey even a new one if they cant get the old...John Brosnan told me that the new greys will be as good as the old after they have been played in and I respect his opinion when it comes to these boxes.

There is no doubt that he is the man to talk to whatever you are looking for! He is as honest and down to earth as you will come by and he will always give sound advice on boxes. A true gentleman.

Re: Wanted : grey paolo soprani

I don't know. The reds I have seen needed their guts reworked. At that point you might as well buy new

Re: Wanted : grey paolo soprani

All old boxes needs to be re-worked - no matter what colour. Well worth spending 500 euros getting a good OLD red fixed up.

The jubilee is like any new box - it needs to be fully adjusted and tuned to the way YOU like it. But from what i've heard, the grey 3v jubilee is just GREAT. Not as great as an old one, but still a great box.

What about the new Jubilee wooden ones any thoughts on them are they just "Greys" in wood?

Re: Wanted : grey paolo soprani

I just received a 2nd hand grey Jubilee. Might have been from csparpd? It's a couple of years old and very nicely played in. John Brosnan lightened the action on the keybord and sweetened the reeds a bit and I have to say it's gorgeous. Very easy to play. Great machine all around.
