I just finished building three guitars over Christmas, and moved on to setting them and my double manduku up to see if I could actually get a tune out of them. (More to it than I thought due to short scale length and a need to move a guitar's tuning up a few half-steps for the ultra-light, low tension flamenco strings I installed on one.)
Long story short, I found a supply of mandolin tabs for the double manduku, and worked out the string buzzing noises discovered while trying them out via set-up. I was hoping to find some on-line ITM guitar tabs. I did find a couple of sites that seem geared toward my eternal beginner skills. They aren't ITM, but I thought I'd mention them. (If someone knows of a free, guitar tab site with beginner level, ITM music, I'd like to know about it. Alternately, any suggestions regarding how to "automatically" modify tin whistle sheet music so it will more fully utilyze a guitar using a few, simple rules?)
The first has free classical, folk, and duet guitar tablature that generally includes a PDF and MP3 that can be downloaded. The second is more contemporary (Pink Floyd, Jimmy Buffett, The Beatles). The "guitarnoise" site can be approached by printing out selections from the pages for sheet music or lessons.
Again, love to hear about a good ITM guitar tablature site for beginners. Spent quite a bit of time on "Greensleeves" last night from PDS. With the guitars tuned properly it turned out to be a very nice beginner piece.
Thanks. I see that slack key isn't the only form that uses "alternate tunings". I'll have to try some of these. "Wind that Shakes the Barley" looks appealing.
I wrote a quick "slack key style" piece called "Fifth Street Tango" to try out on a guitar (instead of a ukulele). I put a recording of me trying to play it just after I wrote it at:

The other sites that drew my attention were:
http://www.pdsmusic.com/lessons.html
and
http://www.guitarnoise.com/lesson .

Oh, Happy New Year!

If any beginners would care for a tab of the piece, just send me an e-mail saying so at:
artnordstrom@yahoo.com.
I check my mail periodically and will reply with the pdf of the guitar tab (..."but only for a limited time").

Re: Guitar Tablature Sites
Sorry, I think that link should be:
http://musicnow.100webcustomers.com/Fifth Street Tango (C) 2009.mp3
(You'd probably have to copy the line from "http:" to ".mp3" into a web browser to make the link work.)
