where to BUY Irish Music?

where to BUY Irish Music?

so, thanks all for replying on some good Irish Harmonica titles to look out for.

The problem is, I cant find anything.

Even Group members who sell their CDs are not replying now, so, what's a person supposed to do?

I'm looking for traditional Irish Harmonica Music -- Diatonic.... no chromatics.

if anyone can point out a person or place that sells, it would be appreciated.

feel free to just email and save a thread.

kindest
jim

Re: where to BUY Irish Music?

Two trad harmonica recordings available here: http://celticgrooves.homestead.com/CGCatalogOther.html

One of them has both diatonic and chromatic playing; the other doesn't say, though I think the CD cover is showing a diatonic model.

Review here (cheers, Geoff) http://www.irishmusicreview.com
(Click on harmonica discography and use brain).

All diatonic, and mostly Irish tunes.

Under duress I'll admit that anyone can buy my CD, but only from me. It is cheap but not free and can never be because it cost me dear, and basically I want Paypal or English cash or euro notes at a pinch. PM me. :-)

Re: where to BUY Irish Music?

Hi Jim,

We have a harmonica player in St Louis that is pretty good. He's won the senior division at the Comhaltas Fleadh a couple times. There is an email address to contact for getting the recording. Here's the URL....

PJ's CD is found at the bottom of the page above. Shipping anywhere shouldn't be a problem. His wife is big into Comhaltas and his daughter is quite a harper.

FYI,
Larry

Re: where to BUY Irish Music?

The Kevin Burke cd I referred to can be bought from the man himself here:

http://www.kevinburke.com/html_links_music.html

"Pigtown Fling" can be obtained from Randal Bays directly here:

http://www.randalbays.com/order.htm

The Breton cd (on sale!) here:

http://www.coop-breizh.fr/telechargement-5/telechargements-10/tradition-instrumentale-264/jean-sabot-loaors-dacquay-harmonica-violon-635/zoom-fr.htm

Mike Stevens' cd can also be bought from the man himself:

http://www.mikestevensmusic.com/

I personally like to buy cds directly from the artist as I can be pretty sure that they will actually get paid for their work.

Enjoy the music.

Re: where to BUY Irish Music?

I make my own CDs on a computer, so there's no amazing production. But the music is the thing and I got a good bloke to help me out with his excellent recording gear. Like me, he is not a charitable institution and had to be paid, good mate though he is, as he was making my CD with me instead of doing his day job. After four years I can see a time when I might just break even. It costs me around £2 in materials, printing, etc. to make each CD on my PC and then I have to buy padded envelopes at 50p each and a bit of extra bubble wrap and then I have to post it. It costs about 70p to post in the UK and not too far short of two quid to post to the US or elsewhere overseas. As David Brent would say, you do the math. Note that I have not factored in anything for my time on the PC, carefully packing the thing and driving four miles there and four miles back from Bude to post it, let alone anything for my artistic enterprise or harmonicas that bite the dust The extra profit to fund my villa in Barbados will have to wait. I post this for the benefit of those who think that making even a modest charge for one's CD is a ripoff on the Madoff scale. It ain't, quite.

Re: where to BUY Irish Music?

I forgot to add that Paypal take a share of all transactions as well. Buyers may not notice this, but I do!

And I had to buy a licence for several tracks from MCPS.

Re: where to BUY Irish Music?

No need for that. I posted it for the benefit of those who think that people who record things at great expense are doing it for the good of their souls and should be only too grateful to have people to offload it on to on the cheap.
