Just looking for info. "RTE" pops up frequently in the discussions. I gather it's a radio station, no? I'm in Michigan in the US. Is there a website with online feed?
RTÉ with a fada over the É. Radio Telefís Éireann.
Éireann is the genitive (possessive="of Ireland") form of the Irish word for Ireland--Éire ("Ireland"), which comes from the name of the trinity goddess who was worshiped by the ancient Irish as an island mother.
Her three names were Éiru, Banbha and Fódla. She was associated with Uisneach, the omphalos of Ireland, in the bellybutton middle of the country. Bonfires were once lit there as a metaphor representing a national womb of sorts.
Fada marks bring you back there and tie it all up--the ancient and the modern, the mythological and the televised.
All very well - but users from abroad don't get a chance to listen anymore, be it Culan, Ceili House or Lyric fm. It's the same with the BBC's iPlayer. As soon as it recognizes you as an 'alien' it switches off. I'd be most grateful for any hints to avoid this.
Thanks, Random notes. I checked and it's not the firewall. I listened to all these programmes before using Firefox 3 and they all shut down my browser now.
I 'll find out about this proxy now.

Re: Rte
Hmm. I've just tried a couple of the RTE shows and have no issues listening to them. Using a Mac in California.
