After 13 plus years, hundreds of gigs, millions of miles
travelled together and countless brilliant times, we've decided to
call it a day. It might be forever or a prolonged pause, who knows,
but we're all still great friends and will always remain so. This
might sound like a cliché but it is deeply truthful.
Huge thanks to every single one of you for your support and love,
we'll certainly miss making music as Flook, but the light, notes and
memories shine on in our hearts. We'll keep you informed of any
important info in the future, for now our love and best wishes for
2009 and beyond.
Sarah, Brian, Ed & John Joe
Well hope to see them back in some form in the not to distant future. Great bunch of Musicians. Best of luck to them.
Traditional? Non-traditional? Contemporary? Gimmicky? I'll by-pass these labels and say they were exploratory and innovative, bloody good musicians and a fine and exhilarating band. I never saw them live but very much like their albums. Any whistle or flute player, whether into their musical approach or not, must surely be moved to interest by their unique showcasing of these instruments and of what can be done with these in ensemble playing. They concocted between them some really good new tunes; Sarah must have done more than anyone else to make the silver flute kosher in ITM! So, thank you Flook, and all the best.
Dang, I never got to see them live. I only discovered them through YouTube within the last year or so. I do hope they get together again and come out to California.
Dang, this is truly disappointing to hear. I have Haven and Rubai and enjoy the albums immensely. I was so looking forward to them coming to the US again for a tour and hopefully catching them at an Irish festival around Ohio as I've never heard them live either.
We had the honour of playing support to them at their recent Bristol gig, and so this news was an especially sad shock. I thought they were dynamite that night.
what made me think they were about to wind down...hmmm...felt like they were living on their laurels a bit and I wondered if the female flutist (Sarah?) having a baby would put a different context on her life...it felt a bit directionless to me but great musicians...well at least I know that At First Light are recording and watch out for Alan Burke doing a show on BBC2 Northern Ireland in the new year on the hunger strikes...all's not lost...
I wish they could've recorded a few more tunes, especially some of the slower stuff Brian's played with Ed in the concert videos, like "Merrily Kissed the Quaker" or "Last of the Stars", I would love to have a good quality recording of that tune...

This was from their official website. I for one will miss their music and especially John Joe's playing but on the other hand it will be great to see what phoenix rises from the ashes.
