A while back my computer hard drive crashed and I lost all the music videos I had downloaded from places like comhaltas because I failed to back them up. Well, right after I got the the new system, my firefox browser was updated and now no longer supports the "unplug" add-on that I used to do all my downloading. So now I can't seem to find anything else that will do the job. Does anyone know if there is something else available that will download vids from comhaltas without distorting them too badly.
Firefox just updated my browser & it seems a bit buggy. All the same you can try the add - on *
Comhaltas uses a flash player [ .flv]
Here is an online FLV converter. http://vixy.net/
It can convert & save to video (.avi) or audio (mp3)
Sometimes you can simply copy & paste the URL (webpage link) . . . or if you have the video (.flv) web address . . . paste this into the vixy.net converter
You can just go into the "Temporary Internet Files" folder on your computer and fish it out of there. Youtube videos are usually titled "getvideo[1]", then pull it out of the folder, then rename it with a ".flv" at the end of the filename. It's what I do.
If you look at the page source (ctrl+u in firefox) and search for mp3, you'll see things like "file=music/45f71a8e27484.mp3&autostart=false" which refers to a file that is in http://www.shadyglen.ru/music/45f71a8e27484.mp3
I agree with mactavish that SUPER is good (I'd go further and say that it's very good), but heed well his advice to download only from the official erightsoft website; there have been instances of malware being downloaded if it's downloaded from unofficial sites. Erightsoft recommend NOT to use an add-on downloader but to use IE or Opera.
I've just downloaded the latest 2008 version (updating from my 2006 version) but be warned that you'll be taken through pages and pages of technical stuff and examples before you find the download instruction - and even then it's not obvious unless you're looking for it carefully. But the end result is well worth it.
I found that SUPER does conversions that aren't specifically mentioned in its GUI. For instance, it will happily convert a flac file into other audio formats, but, as far as I can tell, it currently doesn't convert into flac (for that I think you still need foobar2000).
It's useful to mention here that the current version of VLC media player (ver 0.9.6 Grishenko) allows you to play back audio files slower or faster at any ratio from just over 0.25 to 4. The change in speed of playback alters the pitch accordingly.
In previous versions VLC would only do this with video; so if you tried to change the speed of an audio file you wouldn't hear any sound, but you would with video.
VLV media player ver 0.9.6 now provides software for synchronising sound and vision in videos ( YouTube is notorious for sound and vision being out of synch).
In VLC go to Tools - Extended Settings - Synchronization.

Re: Downloading Embedded Media
How would I extract the audio from this page:
http://www.shadyglen.ru/index.php?act=dance&sub=10
There are multiple files on the page and I don't know the individual URL of each one.

Re: Downloading Embedded Media
If you want to extract audio only then probably easier to do this using Audacity and then edit it down.

Re: Downloading Embedded Media
There is a good FLV player if you need it here - http://www.clipmarks.com/clipmark/643E01CA-40E8-4B6F-B251-346E6387D010/ - and there are some notes on that page about extracting sound from Youtube etc
If you want to convert the files to something else SUPER is good but only download it from www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html site
