Re: Ennis Festival

I really enjoyed it. Fair enough the weather was crap, but after all this is Ireland, so you just have to take your chances with the weather here.

I met a couple of ones who were saying they were on here too. In truth, probabaly the majority of musicians that were there have probably contributed or peered in here once or twice. You can identify yourselves at your own disgression! ;-)

In short, from my own experience it was a great weekend, with great tunes and great craic.

Re: Ennis Festival

Loved the weekend, or what I saw of it-I was sick on Sunday.
On Saturday I did the workshops and there was a great session that night in Mossy Sullivans with Blackie O' Connell, Karol Lynch, Darren Maloney and many more,
Loved it.

Re: Ennis Festival

To be honest, I'd say a lot of ones who were down at the Ennis Trad Fest haven't posted comments here (as yet) as they are probably still recouperating. Thank God I stuck to good old pints of Ennis' finest water all weekend!

Re: Ennis Festival

Ennis was a blast. It was my first time to the festival, and must say, the trad disco was probably one of the weirdest things I've ever experienced...
Had a nice yet terribly packed session Saturday night in the Usual Place Pub, and a brilliant one Sunday afternoon in The Brewery, hosted by Siobhan Peoples. Good paced session, and a great variety of tunes.

Re: Ennis Festival

Trad Fest was class as usual. What does the weather matter? If the sun were shining it would only make you feel guilty for spending the entire day in the pub.

Re: Ennis Festival

What a weekend! Pity it's so short as with so many great sessions going on it's only possible to get to sample a few - anyway roll on next year!

I really enjoyed the slow session in Cois na hAbhna on the Friday night with musicians from Manchester, Australia, Dublin not to mention the Ennis crowd. I mustn't forget North Wales and it was great meeting Banjoian and his better half - in fact we had about half a dozen banjos but even thought the tunes were slow during the first couple of hours, there was plenty of lift and draiocht in the music.

It was also a good learning situation in that we found out very quickly that lists don't work at a festival session and after the first couple of sets it was back to each musician starting off their own tunes. Also "Drowsie Maggie" reigns supreme as this was probably the only tune where every musician without exception joined in - Boys of Bluehill would have been a close second!

It was also interesting that while a good few musicians admitted to being on the Yellowboard, only Ian and myself exchanged "handles" with the rest preferring to remain as lurkers even in the session situation. However, one musician insisted that they're not one of the Yellowboard trouble makers which I thought was highly amusing.

Re: Ennis Festival

Highlight for me was the Tony Linnane-Noel Hill concert on Sunday night! I was a little sleepy after a long day of sessions, the ceili with Four Courts, CD release with Paul McGlinchey and a few pints in between. But once they started playing I was wide awake and dancing in my seat! (And the hail storm after sounded like sean nos dancing on the rooftop!)

Re: Ennis Festival

I forgot to mention the session in the Queen's on Sunday afternoon. This to me is what festival sessions should be all about. Although most of the key members would have been mainly musicians from the Donnybrook Kiely's session, anyone who turned up with an instrument was warmly welcomed and encouraged to start some of their own tunes. I had to leave around 6.00pm but the music was still going strong at this stage and must have continued well into the night.
