2009 SE Tionol in Gainesville

2009 SE Tionol in Gainesville

All,

Sorry for the intrusion - with the economic downturn et al, I am soliciting interest in the 2009 SE Tionol, which alternates bet. southeastern US cities, most recently Atlanta and Gainesville.

We are lining up instructors (great ones are agreeing once again to come down) - but again, given the financial woes that many of us are feeling, we are soliciting interest.

The weekend would be 27 February 2009.

Can, if you are interested more than a casual interest, PM me with your email address so we can see if there is enough mass to support it this year. The past years, we have had upwards 100 folks on pipes, fiddle, concertina, guitar, bodhran, flute, whistle, dance, etc... in a wonderful venue.

all the best.

Re: 2009 SE Tionol in Gainesville

I heard that Paul Groff might be asked to teach concertina at the tionol. If so, I would make every effort to attend. I would try to interest my students and local players in attending, as well.

Just to be clear, I would not be interested in attending if any other concertina teacher were teaching there--they're easy enough to find at the summer music camps. Paul is a great teacher and player, and this would be a very rare opportunity that I wouldn't want to miss. And, your hiring him would show due recognition for a local musician of enormous talent--someone still accessible to concertina players in the Southeast US long after the tionol is over.

Thanks for your consideration,
Julie Ross

Re: 2009 SE Tionol in Gainesville

Hi,
I received an email from the the Southeast Pipers Club on 12/28/08. I hoping I'm not stepping on any toes by copying it here, but here are the essentials:

"Due to some hard work by Larry Reeves and John Maze, we've finalized the instructors and have a great line up once again. Ivan Goff and Michael Cooney on Pipes, Willie Kelly on Fiddle, and Paul Groff on Concertina.

Friday night will kickoff with a BYOB pot luck and sessions, with workshops and a concert on Saturday, followed by more workshops on Sunday.

Check out the SEUPC website for details, and please register early, the price is higher at the door. Be sure to order your Tionol T-Shirt as well as any extra concert tickets.
