Re: Tenor banjo players

Darren Maloney, brothers Donie and Pio Ryan and Eamonn O'Leary are the ones worth checking out, depending on what style you're into.

Re: Tenor banjo players

I don't think Gerry O'Connor is in New York.

Re: Tenor banjo players

Absolutely, Steve,

I don't reckon Gerry thinks he's in New York either -

Re: Tenor banjo players

In case anyone is wondering what Floss and I are talking about, someone had simply posted the name of Gerry O'Connor in reply to the original post. The Gerry O'Connor reference of which we speak seems to have vanished.

I heard some recordings that friends made this summer of Pio Ryan at the Catskills week and was absolutely knocked out. I'd love to see him play sometime.

Is this the Pio Ryan you're talking about?

Re: Tenor banjo players

I'm guessing the number of Irish tenor banjo players named Pio Ryan is relatively small. I've not actually seen the man, but this video appears to him playing in a social situation with beginning players. The stuff I heard from the Catskills retreat, where Ryan was on the faculty, was like music from another universe by comparison.
