Has anyone tried the Gliga violins? I am a 52 year old fiddler with very small hands, My teacher said that most of my effort is trying to find the note, and she recommends me trying a 7/8 violin. Most are higher priced, but an internet search has found a 7/8 Gliga out of Romania. When I did a discussion search I got a lot of Warnings. Help!
Well I have never dealt with them, so I can not say. There is a full range between these 2 extremes here. In truth you will never know until you try it...
Read the feedback... The great majority are happy with their instruments ...
I have a Gliga violin and I'm very happy with it. I bought it on recommendation from a violin teacher of a friend. I was looking for something decent but not expensive. I've had lots of positive comments on it's tone. Most have described it as having a "rich" tone. (what ever that means to them)
I took it to a luthier to have different pegs fitted and he was
impressed with it.
I had a couple of questions and faxed them. They were very responsive and had one of their "technicians" call me on the phone. I was surprised, I live in Pennsylvania. Most companies won't make a long distance call.
I think they have a retail operation in California.
Hi,
I think a Gliga violin, especially the Gem model($400+) is an excellent bargain. They have a so-so setup; a soft bridge but it will have Dominant strings. They have a mellow sound and I found it easy to play. If you were to step up to the GAMA($800) model, I think you would have a fiddle that would last you many years.
