Field Guide To The Irish Music Session back in print!
Field Guide To The Irish Music Session back in print!
First let me say I have no financial or personal interest in this book, but have long awaited even a used copy for a good while, and know many friends who have also tried to get a copy in the last few years only to find it was unavailable... and good news I just learned over the weekend that Barry Foy has at long last reprinted the book, in paperback. I ordered Sunday and my copy arrived today!
Down with the flu, I enjoyed loafing on the couch and reading it today. Just thought many folks here would like to know about this.
Those of you who already have it, did you enjoy it as much as I did? Great observations with a twist of humor! I may order a few more to scatter around at our session for others to peruse between tunes!
Re: Field Guide To The Irish Music Session back in print!
Hi Iris - yes, this is a beautiful, funny, and useful book. I'm so glad to hear it's back in print! I had the pleasure of meeting Barry at a house session here in San Francisco a year or so ago, and he said he was working on it. He's a great musician and was fun to talk to.Some thing I love about the book are the illustrations. I think I remember him saying that the artist had since passed away. Did they make it into this edition? Maybe I will order a few copies as gifts; thanks for the heads up!
Re: Field Guide To The Irish Music Session back in print!
Thanks for the get well wishes.... getting there.
I would contact Barry Foy from his site and see what he can do for overseas....there is an $11.95 flat rate from USPO, more than the book, but whatever. Ask him.... maybe.
That Ebay sale.... that's what happens to in demand out of print books. I was surprised to see a few I had put out in the 80s and early 90s trading for up to $425. Wish I had saved a few extra!!

Hi Keith, the illustrations are in and the artist did pass away and Barry dedicated the book to him. They are simply drawn and just perfect.
