The clues are all there on the youtube page. The notes say it's "a fun Annbjorg tune" on the albums Baba Yaga and Aliens Alive. The video title is String Sisters - Wackidoo. If you Google a few of these terms, you quickly find that Wackidoo is the title of the tune and that it was written by Annbjorg Lien. These comments from her also are easy to find:
Lien says of "Wackidoo" that it is "A tune about all the fun you can have in Wackidoo. You can worship your favorite heroes, make weird sounds, or just play happily along." There are plenty of weird sounds at the beginning of "Wackidoo," and here and there unexpectedly through out the song, but it is one of the livelier pieces, reminiscent of Irish jigs in its rhythm and melody, but with some surreal passages thrown in here and there.
One of those awful 'up and down repetitive tunes where everybody smiles and tries to look very busy. Those musicians blessed with long tresses toss them around as in TV adverts for a Shampoo and the piano player does a sort of a Thelonious Monk attempt on a mickey mouse melody ..... 3mins 45secs of sheer boredom. Whoops...nearly forgot...Sorry....can't help with the name.
All those years as a music critic, albeit an armchair one. Just wondering and worrying about the path that ITM seems to be taking in an attempt to appease the masses.
Correction - Just wondering and worrying about the path that ITM seems to be taking in an attempt to appease the masses, although I am fully aware that this particular tune, although played in a diddley eye style is not really of Irish origin
I can see your point about repetitiveness and simplicity. but to an extent that's an attraction for me. that hypnotic aspect. It struck me as a Shetland tune, and to some extent I wasn't too far off.
I loved the jazzy piano break, wild.
Well, Mairead ni whatsit and Catriona MacDonald must have koshered it, as they're in the String Sisters. It's obviously a fusion band, linking up Irish, Scottish, Shetland and Scandinavian trad - plus jazz, etc.
I found the melody uninspiring but the overall arrangements/effects rather good. It didn't strike me as pretending to be Irish or any other *particular* TM. It's not as if they'd played some well-liked Irish session tune and slaughtered it. (Not that I imagine these girls could do such a thing, of course...)
whats this tune?
whats this tune?

Re: whats this tune?
This is the info given on YouTube:
"A fun Annbjørg tune also found on "Baba Yaga" and "Aliens Alive"."
and the titel of the clip is 'String Sisters - Wackidoo'
So, presumably the tune is called 'Wackidoo' and was written by Annbjørg Lien, who is from Norway - and a member of the String Sisters.

How's that for a x-post, Gary? Your research was a bit more thorough than mine.

Re: whats this tune?
That is not ITM. All tunes are not ITM just because they go diddley.

Re: whats this tune?
Wow, what a lineup. The tune works quite well for the five fiddles and I bet all they wanted from it was a bit of fun.

Fun? Fun???
Off with their heads!
Don't they know that trad music has been entrusted to the care of pompous male middle-aged gits?
