Hi Dan
When I read 'powerful tunes', I often think of tunes which go down onto the G string where you can really dig the bow in for that 'big' sound - tunes like
The Banks Of Inverness, aka The Lass Of Gowrie, The Lakes Of Sligo, played at a stately measure and not as a Kerry polka, preferably with a snare-drum in attendance, can suggest the Cairngorms on the march - i.e., IMO, it is a powerful tune!
So is The 79th's Farewell To Gibraltar, played to perfection by Phil Cunningham on piano-accordion (with snare-drummer) on his and Johnny's joint album "Against The Storm".
Powerful tunes
Powerful tunes
Strange title I know but I'm sure you know what I'm on about!
Any examples?

The Maids of Tullyknockbrine. Play the 1st part an octave lower if you 're a fiddler !
