Just wondering if there are any regular trad sessions in Cardiff. All the sessions in the session list seem to be inactive. I will be at college in Glamorgan for the next five years. Any info would be great! If there arn't any, are there any other musicians around Cardiff looking for sessions?
Welsh traditional music, it says. The website carries an email contact address, so you should be able to check the current status, and maybe also ask about any other nearby sessions.
You might want to check out Newport which is only about 10 miles from Cardiff. I was looking at the 2007 Comhaltas Tour details on the website and found the following contacts who might be able to point you in the right direction:
Not sure about the sessions, but there are musicians about that we see over here in Bristol now and again. Latest report was that the session players had an argument and split the session up.
I received an email from you and I have lost it! It would have been sent through Torgwen or Torfaen Traditional Music email addresses.
In Newport there is a monthly session first Friday of the month at the Irish Club. I haven't been for a while, a couple of the main people stopped going when the smoking ban came in.
You might have seen I have tried sessions in Cwmbran (7 miles N of Newport) but there just aren't enough musicians that want to attend a regular session. I have found this to be the case in Cardiff, Newport and Cwmbran and further afield too. It has also been so for many years! Sessions come and go and people come and go but there never seems to be enough hardcore players to keep things going or landlords stop sessions when they don't make loads of cash. Having said that there are a few players around who would be up for a good session, I'm happy to arrange one in Cwmbran if that would interest you?

This website says that there is a regular Monday night session at Y Mochyn Du (the Black Pig)

Yeah I saw that one. Should have mentioned I'd be looking for a trad Irish or mix session. That seems to be a welsh trad music night only.
