Kerry Dances

Kerry Dances

Hi folks, I'm wondering if anyone has the CD "Legends." (James Galway and Phil Coulter). Track 7 is Lanningans Ball (in the tune list) and Kerry Dances. This second part doesn't seem to be any of the related tunes in the tune list but it's quite a familiar tune to me and I'd like to know it's name
Hope someone can help.

Re: Kerry Dances

I don't think there'll be much dancing in Kerry this week after the thumping Tyrone gave them. Sorry Taminka!

Re: Kerry Dances

Have to agree with SF on this one and the tune you should be playing for the next few days, "The Mountains of Pomeroy" can be found at http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/1858. It was one of the best finals I've ever watched with Kerry, as usual, playing some great football but Tyrone were really awesome for speed and determination.

Re: Kerry Dances

Taminka - Is the tune you are looking for 'The Kerry Dance', by any chance? http://www.mountaindulcimer-1-3-5.com/Archive-KerryDance.htm (this happens to be the most informative site about this song - and has a link to sheet music)

This is a popular song written in C19th or early C20th. The tunes database at thesession is intended for traditional dance tunes in the collective repertoire of session players, so a tune such as this is unlikely to get posted there (although a number of song tunes have been posted in spite of this). However, the notes on the above site suggest that the air is based on an old dance tune, so perhaps it would not be so out of place there after all. I wonder whether there is any dance tune in circulation nowadays that is recogniseably related.
