Celtic-Star Instruments

Celtic-Star Instruments

About a year or so ago I posted a question about the Celtic Star range of instruments with some useful replies.
However I still have yet to know of anyone who owns, or has direct comments about, 17in scale length mandola they produce, tuned GDAE.
Are there any out there? I would be really interested to find out.
Cheers

Re: Celtic-Star Instruments

A friend of mine recently purchased an Celtic-Star octave mandolin on on eBay for just under $300.00 US. He had to put another $100.00 get it set up and play the way he wanted. But he is very satisfied.

I played it yesterday - sounds great. This instrument has a top mounted guitar type wooden bridge not the usual cheap metal tailpiece. It also has a pre-amp and tuner.

For $400.00 US, it was a steal

Re: Celtic-Star Instruments

I have a Celtic-Star octave mandolin which I purchased just three months ago. The service and shipping was just great from this guy and I'm very happy with the instrument. I think it's good very good quality, especially at the price, tone and sound are top for me anyway. I play mine sometimes through a small Roland Cube battery operated amp and pickups and electronics are just fine. The guy who has the business is Jens-Peter and he is a really friendly and helpful guy. I ordered one day and received the instrument well packed in about four days. I have been well satisfied and would recomend his stuff to anyone.

Re: Celtic-Star Instruments

Thanks for all your useful replies concerning the Celtic-Star instruments which eminate from Germany.
It would seem that several folks have bought the Octave Mandolin (23inches, 585cms scale ) and are happy with them.

However, if anyone cares to look on the website
http://www.celtic-star.de then you will see the large array of instruments provided.

His TENORMANDOLA is 402cms (about 16inches) and is tuned CGDA.

My particular interest is with the GDAE tuned MANDOLA. This it says has a scale length of 17inches (440cms). I am not too experienced but to my knowledge this is unusual. It would seem too short for the GDAE Octave Mandola and too long for the GDAE Mandolin. Am I right or is it just me?

Has anyone seen, heard of or better still played one of these beasts?

Are there any other makes in the world with similar dimensions and tuning?
