Sore, as in, they actually hurt? You should definately get them looked at... If you have tinnitus, that could certainly be provoked by playing the banjo. Have you considered playing the mandolin instead?
Banjomad - have you ever seen one of those tv wildlife specials where they throw a bucket of dead fish off the side into shark infested waters? With a post like this, we banjo players are the fish.
Seriously though, Helen started an interesting discussion about this a few months ago. You can read it here:
I'm surprised I'm not completely deaf from all the years I've spent sitting in front of, behind or on speakers almost as big as my house, while hanging out with musician friends or boyfriends at bars and concerts. Banjos are nothing in comparison. (And I play my mandolin banjo once in a while. It doesn't hurt my ears. It hurts my fingers.)
But seriously, if your ears actually hurt, please go to the doctor. Things like that tend to get worse, not better, if you ignore them.
Banjo/ ear problems
Banjo/ ear problems
Does anyone out there think they have bad hearing over playing a banjo. My ears are really sore and when I play the banjo they get worse.

have you tried playing the banjo with a plectrum instead of your ears, it might hurt less
