Traditional Wig Glue?

Traditional Wig Glue?

I find my wig is always falling off when playing a particularly ferocious set of reels at my local session.
Which adhesive do you, the people on this forum use?
I usually use Hair Hat Araldite or, best of all, SyrupStik but is there any other product more traditional and suitable for the Trad Irish whistle player?
By the way (off topic) does anyone else collect potato peelers or hot water bottles (HWB) of the famous like what I does?

Re: Traditional Wig Glue?

If you grow a beard on the bottom of your face it provides a sufficiently large hair:skin ratio that no-one will be bothered if your wig falls off.

Re: Traditional Wig Glue?

Why would you want to wear a wig, anyway? In the Traditional Music world, baldness is surely an asset. You only have to look at Brendan Begley, Cathal McConnell, Martin Fay, S(k)in(h)ead O'Connor... My musical credentials have increased tenfold since the hair fell off me coconut.

Re: Traditional Wig Glue?

But, if you want traditional, flour and water is the way to go. If you don't mind venturing into foreign territory (and why not - half the tunes are foreign anyway), garlic juice is a much stronger, if more pungent, adhesive. http://www.herbsociety.org/garlic/g_other.php

Another option is to mould a layer of clay to your scalp and sow it with alfalfa seed, which affords a temporary but colourful (and edible)covering.

"S(k)in(h)ead O'Connor".
Ah geez, classic! :-)
Did you just make that up off the top of your head, or is it an hairloom.
(Sorry.)

Re: Traditional Wig Glue?

I've never used wig glue because I keep flipping mine. Just an uphill battle not worth fighting.

Re: Traditional Wig Glue?

I never knew Jamie wore a wig, Krick.

Didge - There's nothing you can't get on ebay, not even what Krick's having.

Re: Traditional Wig Glue?

Jamie tried wearing wigs, but they kept getting ripped off at sessions. Bloody careless fiddlers!

Re: Traditional Wig Glue?

Traditionally animal or pearl glue was used, but the only downside is you have to use a hot knife to get it off........

Re: Traditional Wig Glue?

Oh and by the way, I have a beatiful vintage potato peeler pitched in Eb, stamped Pratt Perfected.

Do you have any idea what it may be worth Krick?

Re: Traditional Wig Glue?

I have a beatified potato peeler actually, so there. What price all this and heaven too.

Re: Traditional Wig Glue?

I've never understood why people insist on filtering tunes through (real or pasted-on) head hair. Head hair is an insidious web which softens an instrument's attack, subtly flattens its pitch, and—frankly—is simply hideous to we bulbous smooth-heads from that place you call 'the future'.

(Don't get me wrong, however. The future is not a hairless paradise. We need to shave a small patch of wispy, whitish, vestigial hair from the left side of our heads. And beneath our silver spacesuits we're hairy as that sweaty hominid you call Tom Jones.)

Re: Traditional Wig Glue?

ifyou happen to be playing shetland reels on your fiddle when your wig falls off just slip on a viking helmet, you can also give the barman a good headbutt with it if he gives you a bad pint

Hollywood tape. Double sided, extra strong, sticking capacity. Pamela Anderson swears by it.
