Violin, probably c.1900, European make, copy of J Baptist Schweitzer. Dark varnish, physically sound, recently checked over and set up by a good luthier, new set of Dominants (possibly not the ultimate string for it). Sound tends towards dark rather than bright. A good serviceable instrument that will suit someone who likes its tone. (And who doesn’t want one that looks that bright-shiny-I-bought-it-yesterday kind of new.). $1,500.
It’s come down through family to a non-playing friend with no remaining family to give it to. She figures it’s better off in a “loving home” and regularly played than living in a cupboard.
