Seeking music/dance camp in Ireland for 2004

Seeking music/dance camp in Ireland for 2004

A friend has asked me to help him find some information:

"We're looking for a summer camp, in Ireland, for next summer (2004) that has lessons traditional Irish music and dance ... "

Please post info or (better yet) some URLs and I'll pass them along.

Thanks!

Marguerite

Re: Seeking music/dance camp in Ireland for 2004

Here are a couple I would like to do someday:

This one is a two week summer school in Achill Island, Mayo:

This is the Joe Mooney Summer School in Drumshanbo, Leitrim.

Of course there's always Willie Clancy Week

Also check out http://www.oideas-gael.com/ , Oideas-Gael, I attended a bodhran weekend course last summer that was awesome and affordable. They also offer Gaelic language courses, dancing, tin whistle, art, hill walking, etc. and it is in a beautiful little village kissing the Atlantic, Gleann Cholm Chille.

Re: Seeking music/dance camp in Ireland for 2004

Scoil Acla on Achill Island, Co Mayo, is great. Two weeks of classes and sessions every night in 4 or 5 different pubs. It's a beautiful spot too. First two weeks in August. See the link.

You can opt to only do 1 week of classes. There are not many tourists on Achill (besides the ones there for the music) except for on the bank holiday weekend which falls in the middle of it. Plenty of room to camp and quite a few hostels and pubs with accommodation.

I've been 3 times and will go again though unfortunately not this year.

You'll not be sorry

Thanks! I have passed this info on to my friend. *sniff* Wish I could afford it, too. :)

You might also consider Scoil Eigse which is a week long event of classes in all traditional instruments (other than bodhran) and includes traditional singing and dancing. Some details on this years event are given at http://www.comhaltas.com/education/scoil.htm but the 2004 Eigse will almost certainly be held in Clonmel as well around the same time period.
