Ok I have been wondering a lot about this recently so i thought i might as well put up a discussion about it. From looking at the new tunes going up every day i have been seeing quite a few new compositions and i was wondering if there could be another (excuse my lack of computer knowledge) section on thesession.org like "Tunes" and "Recordings" specifically for "New Compositions"...of course the original rule of then submitting 5 classic tunes would still stand but I just thought it would be a very handy and nice thing as the Old music is fantastic but its nice to hear a new tune once in a while....and composers love to hear what people think of their tunes...there is nothing better than walking into a session and hearing someone you dont know playing your tunes...feel free to email me on the subject...=]

so does the tune tab!! At least we would know where all the dross was instead of wading through it to find a nice old trad tune..... Only half serious... there are some great new compositions. but i have to say i get a bit bored checking out the new submissions and encountering tune after tune written last week... perhaps a little star next to original compositions would mean if your looking for new jems you'd know where to find them, and if your after trad, youd know what to avoid? its all good... keep composing folks.
It doesn't sound a bad idea. As for also-ran tunes - our era is not the first that has produced quantities of composed tunes some of which haven't cut the mustard, or which don't stand up well without their band arrangements etc. - this goes back to Playford and subsequent English tunebooks, and can be noted in the Scottish and for all I know Irish piano-accordion club circuit music if you hear any quantity of it.
At least if your tune's published on a Web forum and you come to think it's rubbish, you can get it deleted! More than the tunebook writers of the distant past, whose jottings are enshrined and venerated willy-nilly.
If no recordings of it appear in the 'details' and not much
in the comments, then it's probably somebody's new masterpiece.
You can also check the submitter's personal details - if that's blank or
there's not much history then it's probably a vanity submission.
Dross: the scum formed by oxidation at the surface of molten metals
I guess, from what I understand is that many people have been melting thier music stands while submitting thier own material. Sort of a heat of the moment type of thing. think it's a passing fad.
Addition to thesession.org??????

Re: Addition to thesession.org??????
This has come up before. Problem is, it would likely draw a lot of dross.
One member started a separate site for original compositions, but it sort of fizzled out.

I got excited as I thought the title of this topic was "Addiction to thesession.org"
Ah well, I'll have to seek medical advice elsewhere!

Don't worry, it won't be long before all the Internet cables get dug up and sold to the Chinese.
