So there I was with my fiance on the way to the cinema, you know, a nice handy night planned... cinema followed by a chinese or something and a quiet pint, then out of the blue I get a text.. Tommy Peoples is in the local... needless to say I dropped my fiance like a hot snot and floored it to the local... I mean, it was Tommy Peoples. My fiance didnt really understand and wasnt too happy with me... but I know you guys agree with my decision.
I was so worth the silent treatment for the last few days. The man is a true gent and a legend. I was talking to him and asked if he would sign the my fiddle (the one I put together), he declined saying he wouldnt destroy a fiddle, so instead he played a set of reels on it.. class.
No real discussion here, just sharing with you who understand that sometimes... just sometimes.. music does come first.
What!! So you're on a bit of a guilt trip and then coming looking here to get a bit of sympathy and moral support... no way, anyway why didn't you persuade herself to go along to the local as well?
I tried to bring her along but she wouldnt cave. its just not her thing.... or maybe she was in a huff. Either way you should be telling me how right I was, not chastising me.... jeez.
Blimey!
You plainly did the right thing Mr Savage.
Start the way you intend to continue but...
Are you sure this is the right bird for you?
I could never have a partner that didn't live and breathe music!
Ah shes the one allright, with the exception of her distinct lack of enthusiasm for trad she's deadly. She may not like trad but she doesnt mind the constant playing of tunes whenever we a re in the car. And she understands my addiction to music, so she's great really.
Tracywag... I'm shocked that you could think that I only posted this to make people jealous..... would I???
Reading this makes me feel lucky that I married a woman who likes to sing but doesn't play an instrument. When we were dating, I took her to several jam sessions as a way of warning her how much I like playing music and she still wanted to marry me anyway.
In 1991, I had the opportunity to marry another musician but I didn't realize that she was interested in me until it was too late.
Ha this thread craics me up my wife is the same she moans when i play the accordion later than 9 0'clock says i'm waking the kids bah. Yet when i go out on the p*ss with my mates she moans i'm not in the house can't win. I'm driving to Wales for the weekend tomorrow she can forget it if she thinks i'm listening to the radio station all the way the Temple House Ceili band will see me through my journey.
Screw the cinema!!

Re: Screw the cinema!!
Come now, you don't really want sympathy. You want us to be jealous.
And I am.
Bwahahah. I remember a similar sceene when I was engaged. He didn't pout though, he was relieved I didn't expect him to go along.

There ought to be some terrifying skull-cracking bagpipe reel called The Trad Widow's Complaint...

Hey ss, turn the tables. Would you put her in the doghouse if she did it to you?
OK, everybody stop laughing. Of course he wouldn't, and the irony would be missed by herself, I'm sure. Usually is.

Re: Screw the cinema!!
Shared passions are great, but accommodating your Significant Other's passions is what keeps the marriage going for the long haul.
Shoot, I probably would have abandoned old grannie on the street corner just to hang with Tommy....

"... the constant playing of tunes whenever we are in the car"
Does she put you in the back seat, or are you constantly poking her in the eye when she's trying to drive?

You did the right thing Savage! I think I'd walk on hot coals and risk
divorce to hear Peoples if he was in town. He won't come out to
Australia.
