Some say that, for Irish-style fiddling, slurs are what it's all about--"slur into the downbeat" etc.
But most good fiddlers vary their bowing, so the slurs don't always occur in the same places. That's why they tend not to be included in little thumbnail-sketch transcriptions like you see on this site.
The poor lad is reading music. In classical violin music they notate every slur. In Traditional fiddling, they never notate a slur, you're supposed to make your own. The tune will tell you how it wants to be bowed.
Give the poor kid a break !
He's playing Irish music on the saxophone from written notation, he's got enough problems already, you'll be confusing him, telling him to tie his shoelaces with a violin bow at the same time. It takes years to get that good, even llig knows that.
I thought that young girl who did 'Handlebars' was absolutely fantastic! I even tried to sign up to YouTube just to be able to leave that as a comment. Sadly, Youtube doesn't like any username I can think of, and, in any case, I can't read the verification words, so it won't let me become a member. I tried 5 times to sign up. Any site that makes me feel that stupid before I've even signed up to it isn't worth it, IMO. Shame - the kid's great.
I think bow or neck is a good classification
of slurs, wyogal. The "string" does not cover the
slurs that go across strings. That's a bowed slur.
The neck slurs are on one string.
When I first started, my teacher said I should try
to tie together notes on different strings with one
bow stroke. I asked "why would I want to do that?"
That advice turned out to be a way to approach
lots of tunes flute players excel at but we fiddle
players find unpleasant string crossings / note
combinations; but there are enough regular
fiddle tune that have the same playing challenges.
Thanks, dogmageek. I had no idea what that "bow or neck" business was all about, but was reluctant to ask. You know how some people respond to a sincere but naive question, around here....

Re: slurring
I thought in Irish music they called slurs "slagging."

Re: slurring
You might be using the word "slur" differently than most people here do. What do you mean by "ties"?

Re: slurring
have you tried playing the music with all single bows?.

Re: slurring
Of course, when the fiddler has had too many pints, everything is a slur, a blur, or both.

Yeah, gee, I saw 'slur' and thought 'bow'.
