Copenhagen irish festival (in november)

Copenhagen irish festival (in november)

I've been thinking of going to the Copenhagen irish festival in november (why can't it be earlier! It's going to be too cold to sleep outside!). Are there any other people here who will do the same? Anyone from Denmark, perhaps? Or someone from Sweden who will join me on the train, as I'm torturing the passangers with my fiddle? ;-)

No sure of any details yet, but the festival starts on thursday the 6th and ends on sunday the 9th. Check out http://www.irishfestival.dk/ for some more info (not much for now, perhaps it will come later).

Has anyone been there before? How was it? Is it worth the trip from Uppsala, Sweden? Of course, I doubt anything can stop me from going. ;-)

Re: Copenhagen irish festival (in november)

sounds interesting. I live in Oulu, Finland where we have sessions only once a month. We also have through the Finnish-Irish society a festival lasting 26th September -5th October. The performers from Ireland will be The Woods Band, Seamus Begley & Jim Murray and Mixolydia.

I don't know if I can make it to Copenhagen, but would be nice. Welcome to Oulu to play sometime.

Brent

Thanks, I'll check out that site. And perhaps I can come to your festival, if I've got the time and money. ;-)

Re: Copenhagen irish festival (in november)

I've never actually been to the festival but I've heard that it's very good. It's been going for a good few years now so it should be well established. There's always been a good hard core of Ex Pat Irish/Scots and Danish musicians( Some even called Murphy and Paddy ) playing in the session scene in Copenhagen.

Look out for an old friend of mine--Yirdy on the bones--He's a real character.

In my experience, musicians on the folk scene in Denmark have always been very friendly so that chances of you getting a floor for the night(s) are probably very high. I haven't been to Copenhagen for a few years so my contatcs are a little out of date. However, accommodation should be cheap/plentiful in November even if you have to pay.

Have a nice festival.

John

PS. My favourite festival is Tonder in Denmark. Lots of great Irish music (And everything else). It's more of a listening festival although they do have pubs, a jam tent and an amateur stage.

Re: Copenhagen irish festival (in november)

hi pobe, I can highly recommend the Copenhagen Irish Festival. I'm from Denmark myself, play the banjo and have been at the festival about 6-7 times, and it's really good, lots of good artists and a lot of good sessions. And YES, us at the folk scene in Denmark (as John writes) are very nice people, so drop by and say hello. (if you are looking for any irish things, look at my website www.mckenna.dk

many regards from
