Re: gig of the year!

That's really cool that your mum and sister got to play with Tommy Hayes! Maybe next time, you can join them on stage too!

;-) (Sorry, I just couldn't resist such an easy set up.)

Re: gig of the year!

You really are sharp Will. Go take those pills and have a lie down :)

Re: gig of the year!

You mean they make pills to remedy this?! And here I thought I was incurable....

8-)

Re: gig of the year!

Nah! It wouldn't be the same around here if you were cured!

Re: gig of the year!

Flook in Belfast were darn pretty good during the festival here and put on a great show.

With John McSherry and Donal O'Connor supporting them, they were acually better in my opinion but the sound guy was awful.

Re: gig of the year!

Eitre in Balve three weeks ago. An All Ireland champion on flute, a French master piper, three swedes on stringed instruments ranging from fiddle to bass bouzouki. I'd say they play in the same league as Flook or Lunasa. Definitely worth checking out.

Yikes, I keep forgetting I have that sound lantern link in my profile--I'll try to post something nice sooner than later. Thanks for the kind words, Lily.

Re: gig of the year!

I just got in from Cara's 'Farewell to Germany ' gig before their US tour. To all of you over there: if you've got the chance go and see them. They're in Memphis next week. I posted the link in the bands section.

Re: gig of the year!

Éigse Concert on the Friday of the Scoil Éigse. The concert featured tutors from the week (70 or so this year in Tullamore) who included performers such as Micheál Ó Raghallaigh (concertina), Danny O'Mahoney (accordion), Kieran Hanrahan (banjo), Ossian MacDiarmada (fiddle), Janet Harbison (harp), Patsy Hanley (flute), Deirdre Scanlan (singer), Brian Cunningham (sean nós dancer), etc, etc. This was also the "greatest free show" of the year as there was no admission charge!

Re: gig of the year!

At the last concert at CIAW this year, there was a set with most of the fiddle teachers: Kevin Burke, Willie Kelly, Oisin Mac Diarmada, Matt Cranitch, Liz and Yvonne Kane, Tony DeMarco, Brian Conway and Rose Flanagan, Patrick Ourceau, Dana Lyn and
maybe a few others. I was going cross eyed not knowing which way to look first. I keep waiting for some if it to pop up on YouTube.

The Monday session with Matt Cranich, Con O'Driscoll, Jackie Daly, Ringo and friends was incredible too.
