... it seems, If I have interpretted it correctly, that the Galway and Connacht Fleadh started to be held in 1986 in Sligo. In 1988 The Fiddler of Dooney Competition was revived, and the All Ireland Fleadh was held in Sligo for three years 1989-1991. I got this information by Googling which came up with the Sligo Comhaltas Branch, and I know nothing really ... but see what you've done dfiddle ... I have gone chasing the info and come across some tasty morsals of Fleadh history. Now, all i need to find out is, if a region hosts an All Ireland, whether there is a local Fleadh held separately at a different location. I am ignorant, but interested ... so ... help! those of you in the know.
Sinead has summed it up nicely. Full information on the whole Fleadh subject is given on the Comhaltas site at http://comhaltas.ie/blog/post/2008_fleadh_schedule/. The schedule shown is for this year. 2009 dates and locations will only be known towards the end of the year when County committees make up their minds. The two exceptions are Fleadh Nua which is always held in Ennis towards the end of May and Fleadh na hEireann which is usually announced in September.
Actually the whole discussion did start in the pub Rob! I hadn't thought of email Comhaltas but I think I will now just so it will stop bugging me! Thanks!
Hi all just a quick question, why is the fleadh being moved next year, normally it would fall on the last weekend of August 28th -30th but Bannerman states that it will run on the 21st -23rd.
I have already tried to book accommodation for the fleadh next year and suprise suprise Comhaltas have block booked all the hotels.
Does anyone happen to know....
Does anyone happen to know....
Does anyone happen to know where the Co. Galway and Connacht Fleadh were in 1989???

Re: Does anyone happen to know....
The County and Provincial fleadhs still need to be held in order for people to qualify for the All Ireland.

I forgot to say that the 2009 Fleadh na hEireann is almost certain to be in Tullamore for the third year over the weekend, 21 to 23 August.
