paolo soprani d/c#

paolo soprani d/c#

Just did some researching and stumbled upon the paolo soprani version of a D/C# box. Seems these things were imported to boston in the 50's, to compete with the baldonis. These paolos were, like the baldonis and walters, 19 / 4 key setups. Just wondering if anyone has ever seen / played / maybe even owns one? I would love to hear more about it.

Re: paolo soprani d/c#

Were these red?

2 1/2 years ago, when I was shopping my Giustozzi, Italo-American in Chicago and a d/c# and and e/a. Both were red.

I cam back a week after I saw them and the d/c# had been sold. no further info.

It was wet tuned and was not terribly comfortable to play...even though at my level then, that observation should be taken with a grain of salt.

Re: paolo soprani d/c#

Actually some were black, some were grey, some were blue-grey....maybe other colors also.

If I am not mistaken you can see one on the back cover of Jackie Daly's solo Topic LP (being played by another fellow) -- reads "O'Byrne Dewitt," who were one importer of these. That is a dead ringer for some I have seen around Boston.

Some are labeled "Paolo Soprani," some only with the name of the importer. Check out Joe Derrane's cd, "Give us another" for another one.

Re: paolo soprani d/c#

the d/c# disappeared in a week. I think they still have the E/A a couple of years later. I was thinking about picking it up and having Michael at IrishDancemaster put in new reads and redoing the tuning.

Does anyone know if there is there any source that can ID Soprani's by year if you can find a serial number? I might stop by ItaloAmerican and see if they still have the EA. It might be worth doing as an investment.
