Wish List

Wish List

Which CDs are you hoping will turn up in your stocking? It's never too soon to start dropping those hints.

My current choices are
In the Smoke (various artists) http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display/2983

and
Consider the Source (Brian Conway)
http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display/3074

Also: which LP or cassettes do you wish would be issued on CD?
Brendan McGlinchey's "Irish Champion" is one I'd like to see come out again in any form, really.

Re: Wish List

sorry cjp, but with all my expanding extended family I'm just not going to be able to get you anything this year. Maybe someone around here with deep pockets? where's Bodhran Bliss? I'd like the new At the Racket CD which I'm hoping will be released before Christmas...

Re: Wish List

Before I buy you that Racket CD, airport, I'd like to hear some sound bites. I searched around a bit and didn't find any- can you give me a lead?

You and I both Hiro, but we can dream can't we, make our wish lists and save our pennies... I picked up another tuppence piece on a walk yesterday, that's a step in the right direction. As some are want to say, save you're pennies and the pound will follow! ;-)

I see you've added another...

Lovely unaccompanied whistle music from West Clare. ~ GaryAMartin

"Oisin & Conal Hernon: Up and Coming"
http://www.cic.ie/product.asp?idproduct=1220

"Brothers Oisín and Conal Hernon are two young musicians from the Aran Islands who, although just sixteen and thirteen years of age respectively, display the musical ability and skills of musicians twice their age. They began playing music when they were very young, both starting out on tin whistle, with Oisín moving to button-accordion at the tender age of six and Conal taking up banjo at the age of nine. It wasn't long before they began playing in competitions and they have amassed a long list of prizes over the years, including All-Ireland titles on button-accordion and banjo. ~"

Re: Wish List

After frugally resisting the urge for several months, I recently ordered the new Brian Conway, Kevin Burke’s “Across the Black River” and, after hearing him on the radio, Marc-Andre Hamlin playing Haydn piano sonatas. There goes my CD budget for the rest of the year. I might let my wife or son hide them away for my “stocking.” By then I will have completely forgotten about them and it’ll be a nice surprise. One of the many fun benefits of senior citizenship.

Re: Wish List

Floss,
In perusing your profile, I noticed a "launch of historic archive CD of Clare music". What CD is that? sounds like something my stocking would like to stretch for.

Re: Wish List

"Happy to Meet" ~ I was going to suggest that one to you, but you said 'on our wish list', rather than just 'recommended'... It is lovely...& recommended...

# Posted on August 13th 2008 by ceolachan

Re: Wish List

Yikes- recommending could turn into a long list... If we start that thread we'd probably need to pick a top 5, or top 10. Or, perhaps "What would you recommend to someone who loves, say, a sweet old sound? Or gets chills listening to Ciarán Ó Maonaigh & Aidan O’Donnell?" Guilty of both, btw.

# Posted on August 13th 2008 by fiddlercjp

Re: Wish List

Well, of course, the top 5 must haves of the past, and the top 5 must haves of the present ~ so balance is struck, and it adds up to the usual old 10, the number of fingers we've got, counting the thumbs of course...

What would I recommend? ~ A good night's sleep and plenty of liquids... ;-)

Fiddlercjp,

Sorry, but you must have been looking at the wrong profile. I'm not involved with any Clare CDs.
