I couldn't play the flute for 1 month because I had stitches on my hand for a while. Now I don't have stitches anymore and take up my flute again. It seems I lost the strong embouchure I had in the past. I don't have my landmarks anymore and I can feel leaks when I blow. I cannot hit the hard D and well I don't like my flute sound at all...
I worked so hard to get this strong embouchure in the past and now I am very disappointed because I think I have to start from zero again.
So here is my question. What would be the best exercises to recover my embouchure ? Did someone have the same problem after not playing for a while ? So what do you do ?
I'm ot a flute player, but I think you will get back to the sound you want just by playing. I had the problem of not playing fiddle for about four months when I broke my right arm. While doing physical therapy, it took me about four months to recover my playing. Your recovery should be much faster.
I suggest triple check for leaks; practice slow airs, find one which requires the bottom D a lot; start your practice with the going scales very, very slowly; long slow notes.
Most of all be patient with yourself, it's frustrating just now but it will come back.
I didn't play my flute for 3 months. I've since returned two weeks ago. My embouchure suffered but it's come back to where I left off. Just keep playing.
Before you start on the jigs and reels, I'd begin with one note- say, G. Just hold it and adjust your embouchure. Try a high note, adjust, then go ahead and blast away.
Do check for leaks - after a month of non use following regular playing the flute, head joint cork and/or windings may have shrunk from where they were used to being.

Give yourself a break. Be patient, practise steadily, it will come back.

Otherwise just play - it _will_ come back.
