when i work away from home i often take a laptop just to use transcribe - its a bit of overkill.
i need a new phone, and in an ideal world i would be able to do what transcribe does, but on a small mobile device - the iphone perhaps.
in case you dont know transcribe, this is how i use it.
*slow down at high quality, anything down to half speed.
*pitch shift at high quality, anything up to an octave.
*set (and save, and recall easily) accurate multiple loops, and loops within loops, to allow me to work out whats going on in the very twiddelly bits.
*save all these settings in a separate file.
there is a discussion about fudging this sort of this on an ipod, but it seems fiddelly and low quality compared to transcribe,
Re: transcribe (or similar) on iphone (or similar)?
If you're open to using two small mobile devices, a digital voice recorder such as the Olympus DS-30 (about US$115) will allow you to slow down sound files to 50% without changing the pitch and to set up loops via bookmarks (dunno about loops within loops, but I doubt it). It won't shift pitch or save the settings separately, but using bookmarks or changing the speed doesn't mess up the file. Has a USB computer connection.

I've been bugging the SeventhString software folks for a while now about porting Transcribe to the iPhone/iPod Touch platform. Go to their website and let them know!

I'm a great fan of the program and would love to see it on my iPhone.
Cheers,
