Renting instruments in France?

Renting instruments in France?

Perhaps too specific a question, but does anybody know of a place in Paris where I could rent a fiddle or bouzouki for a few months? I'll be spending my Fall in Paris but I don't have room to take all of my instruments with me from the U.S...

Re: Renting instruments in France?

Just type "Luthiers Paris" in google and you'll get a good whackload of them. There's at least one that will rent a fiddle to a Yank, but only if you tell him you'll vote Obama :-)

Re: Renting instruments in France?

I struggled with this problem a few months ago in Paris. I was looking for a nylon string guitar and for a few months rent I could have bought my own.
Let us know how you get on!

Re: Renting instruments in France?

to rent a bouzouki. i doubt it..a fiddle, you could, go to the "rue de Rome " near Saint-Lazare...but is it worth.?..i think it is better to buy cheap instruments for the time you'll stay in Paris..if it's only to play by your own..

you can also try to put an ad at the "association irlandaise" 22 rue Delambre...

I would also try:

http://www.tradmagazine.com/

Place an ad explaining your problem, who knows, you may get lucky and get a loaner, or something affordable. At least, it'll put you in touch with trad players.

Re: Renting instruments in France?

Needless to say, get acquainted with the folks at the Paris sessions. That's where I would actually start.
