mnemonics dont work... you're best off learning it. it's like writing something on the back of your hand for a test. it looks like you know it, but you're just cheating.
i spent many years developing advanced, linking mnemonics. waste of time. i developed a parlor trick where you could tell me random objects and i could tell them to you backwards. i taught it to a bunch of kids on a bus, and we played, "i opened my grandma's trunk and i found..." where you try to see who can remember the most random objects. no one won, because we got to around 100 objects and we all remembered it.
the method was based on harry lorayne's linking system, as found in the memory book. it only appears to work. you're only memorizing lists of useless information. like what are the colors of the rainbow? everyone thinks "ROY G BIV," and then you have to decode it. like i said, only looks like it works.
i ditched mnemonics a long time ago, and worked on actual learning instead. much more fruitful.
Having studied electronics in my former mining-life, I haven't forgotten resistor stripes due to an extremely racist mnemonic which I can only repeat off-line.
I suppose this is of more use to ITM fans -
DIPL(o)MA was a bit of a bodged mnemonic for the modes - Dorian, Ionian, Phrygian,Lydian,Mixolydian and Aeolian.
My theory teacher always insisted the other two were "bastard" modes (in the truest sense of the word).
Does anyone know a better one?
