Not ITM, But Closely Related

Not ITM, But Closely Related

Dear Friends,

Here is some superior playing - not Irish, to be sure, but many of us play in other related traditions and I did not this clip to pass by unnoticed.

Nice piping. Really nice piping. Where was the second octave? ; )

Re: Not ITM, But Closely Related

A second octave would be great! But on the GHB you only get nine notes- G, A, B, C#, D, E, F#, G, and high A, with three A drones; two in unison and one bass.

Pipers like to ask "how can something with only nine notes be so hard to play?"

Thanks Greg, that's an excellent video.Angus is one of the top competing pipers.
The pipes may only have nine notes but there are five pentatonic scales available.

I KNOW the GHB has only nine notes on its chanter, but that doesn't make it any less difficult to play well. I was just taking the p!ss. Sheesh.

"how can something with only nine notes be so hard to play?"

That's precisely WHY it's so difficult to play.

Working with something that wants to produce a grating squeal on you and taming it into something that makes musical sense... It's beyond me. I need something that is capable of singing BEFORE I screw it into contortions.
