Just Curious?

Just Curious?

Hi, I know this doesn't have anything to do with the session, so please don't send me nasty emails saying, "What does that have to do with the session?" But I'm just curious as to how many people read the "details" of other people. Like the write up's people do of themselves. I rarely do, so I wondered if anyone ever did it regularly. (sp)

Re: Just Curious?

I only read them if they are there. :-)

Re: Just Curious?

I look them up as a matter of course, to see where posters are coming from musically, geographically and in other respects, but most seem to guard their details like leek growers' secrets.

(At this point, I'd like to say - the one place on the website where taciturnity annoys me is when someone slips album details into the Recording section without a thing said about the album or its performers: not strictly relevant to the thread, but I'll say it all the same.)

Re: Just Curious?

Hey Dialed -are you from America? Not everyone knows the names of little towns all over the world.....I'm guessing american. Am I right?

Re: Just Curious?

I'm inclined to check the out the details of a poster if it is an interesting discussion.

Re: Just Curious?

Yes, I do.......just out of general curiosity, I suppose.

Re: Just Curious?

Yes, I often read profiles, it can help create a picture in my mind of the person I'm talking to. I wish people filled them out with even just a little detail, at least their instrument and general geographic location.

bb - I think D4L is North American, at least. Ontario, it seems.

Re: Just Curious?

Yup, I do, if I'm curious about the poster. My own's a little vague, I'm afraid, other than general geography and instruments. I'll write up something better Real Soon Now...

Re: Just Curious?

I read them usually if I'm in disagreement with the poster or don't understand someones point fully. It might give an insight into 'why' and often does.

Other times, posters interest me with some comments and I will go and find out more from their details.

Re: Just Curious?

I like to read the details in other member's profiles--especially the profiles of people who contribute comments regularly to the discussions on this web site. I also read the member profiles of people who make interesting and provocative comments concerning subjects I am interested in.
As for geographical location, I didn't state where I live but I have mentioned that I live in Arkansas several times in some of my comments.

Re: Just Curious?

just because people from the US tend to say I live in (some small town) followed by the two letters of the States, which is what you did. Noone else really does that so I kinda guessed...except maybe Canadians:)

Re: Just Curious?

I think mentioning the name of the state or province or administrative district you live in should be sufficient. If someone wants to know the name of the town or city you actually live in, they can always ask.

Re: Just Curious?

Sure, I check 'em out if the comments are of any interest.

I read yours, Dialed, and I didn't really undestand half of it. Your words?...

Re: Just Curious?

yes yes faucxet- I was just pointing out that no one know anything about america except Americans. You dont see Australian's going about saying "Hi, I live in Newtown,2042 do you? No. We would say "Hi, I live in Sydney Australia" Very simple really dont you think.

# Posted on August 3rd 2008 by bb

Re: Just Curious?

Yes, that can be quite misleading.
I went looking in the sessions section once for a session that was advertised in Naples and it turned out it was in Naples, Florida !
Obviously there are some instances where it´s very unlikely to be a misunderstanding. I mean, you wouldn´t go looking for a session in Memphis, Egypt....... or would you ?
My bio says I´m from London. Perhaps I should have pointed out that it isn´t the one in Ontario :-)

Re: Just Curious?

There is a Sydney in Canada too. When I lived in Canada everyone kept saying "Sydney, in Nova Scotia" and I was all like 'Nooo Sydney, Australia'

Re: Just Curious? ~ how many read the "details" of other members???

I do! ~ and if they've included their own compositions as well, like Reverend Pete, I give them a go ~ and if there's links I follow them... I am shamelessly curious, but I also like most of the folks I've stumbled across here and I enjoy seeing what else they have to say, if anything... Most 'deatails', however, seem to remain empty, but there can be interesting things to follow up in the 'history' ~ sometimes...

Re: Just Curious?

When there are towns with similar names, it is helpful to include the name of the country as well.
However, so far as I can tell, there isn't another North Little Rock in another English-speaking country.
Sometimes I get teased about living in North Big Pebble.

# Posted on August 4th 2008 by fauxcelt

Re: Just Curious?

I have never heard of North Little Rock....sorry

# Posted on August 4th 2008 by bb

Re: Just Curious?

Be especially careful with Gibraltar. Apart from the well-known one hanging off the end of Spain, there are at least two in England - one near Aylesbury, and the other near Skegness. The latter was inadvertently discovered recently by a hapless Turkish truck driver en route from Turkey to the "real" Gibraltar when his GPS system went pear-shaped.

# Posted on August 4th 2008 by lazyhound

Re: Just Curious?

North Little Rock is actually just a suburb of Little Rock which is on the south side of the Arkansas River and is the state capital. I got the idea for jokingly referring to North Little Rock as North Big Pebble from the fact that in the rest of Arkansas people jokingly refer to Little Rock as the Big Pebble because it is the state capital.

Re: Just Curious?

Is this an attention seeking thread by the original poster? Did we all suddenly look at D4L's profile to discover what was there?

His words are
Regal, sick, cute, shredded, dialed, and brew-tal

My words are:
snortle-cheese, flame wander, chiggle, rain fest, un-gree-fo-foood, garntabed.

What are your words?

Re: Just Curious?

sorry - *her words*

Re: Just Curious?

Ya, Well "My Words" are just words that I overuse. You might find me using them alot in my posts. Any way!!!!
