There tons of really cool tunes. Some are better on one instrument than another. What do you play, and what's your experience level with Irish music?
Personally, I think all the old favorites are great. I'm working on Wheels of the World, Cliffs of Moher, and a few others right now. What is cool to one person is lame to another.
Roisin's not after a 'really cool' tune, alex, she's after a deadly cool tune. There's a world of difference! Geez!
Farewell to Erin people usually find fairly deadly. Fairly.
Agree with nicholas. It is often the motive for learning a tune.
I used to work with a fiddle player that enlightened me on the importance of ego in the presentation of music. It was a profound moment during a conversation on the way home in a car. It is an idea to be embraced. Deadly cool tune? Micho
Russell's Mason's Apron.
Hey, firstly, the main reason for someone wanting to learn a deadly cool tune is because, um, it's deadly cool.
Secondly, what's wrong with trying to impress someone?? If there is a certain someone you want to impress, learning a deadly cool tune is a pretty good way of going about it, I think!
Im looking for a deadly cool tune??????

So who are you trying to impress, and how?
That is surprisingly often the motive for choosing and learning a tune.

Re: Im looking for a deadly cool tune??????
Personally, a deadly cool tune would have to be:
Catharsis
http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/703
Waves of Rush
http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/2531
The Road to Errogie (In A, not G as posted)
http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/5270
But of course that may not be the sort of tunes you are looking for
Care to clarify a wee bit?

Re: Im looking for a deadly cool tune??????
It'd be better probably to have a slightly less deadly tune before it, leading to a deadly key change to Farewell to Erin.

I've just been introduced to The Shaskeen, it's my favourite this week. Sounds great on the banjo - even with me playin it.
