I'm arriving at Shannon aiport Wed 6th, 7.45pm (19.45) ETA.
Getting across to Feakle that evening by public transport is impossible - so was assuming bus into Ennis -and there for the night (still looking for accom there for that night though). However - just seen; there is a good (and free!) opening night concert on the Wed evening- so if anyone is driving across from Shannon - or a bit later on - from Ennis - would be grateful of a lift in exchange for petrol (gas!) costs. Or indeed, on the Thurs - if I end up staying the night in Ennis. Also: I've been getting no replies from emails to the hostel in Feakle - so will now try phoning -and looking elsewhere. But wondered ; does anyone have a spare place in a house share - or the like? (I can give references - decent sort of chap and all that - though not such a great player- yet!) Any other accom suggestions welcomed. My needs are minimal - e.g. -a bit of floor space --- but indoors! After the rain during Willie week - so glad I wasn't camping. But, if it does come to that - wondered what facilities - if any -are laid on for campers - eg washing /showering (and probably importantly - 'drying out'). I have been several years to WCSS, and Mrs Crotty - so generally know 'whats what' - but as a Feakle first timer -- not too sure what to expect. The system of registering /booking for the the Feakle bus sure looks complicated ! http://www.catconnects.ie/tickets.htm
The campsite at Feakle is pretty basic, just a field with portaloos, no showers.
If you arrive without somewhere organised to stay the festival office in the community hall will try and help find you somewhere.
If you don't manage to get a lift to Feakle from Shannon another option would be to stay the Wednesday night at Jamaica Inn hostel in Sixmilebridge - http://www.jamaicainn.ie. A taxi there from the airport will cost €25 and a dorm bed in the hostel is around €20. Bear in mind that you won't find anywhere cheap to stay in Ennis. I've just done a search on Gulliver (http://www.gulliver.ie) and the cheapest place offering single accommodation in the town was charging €50.
You might find that someone staying at the hostel will also be going to Feakle (25 km. or so away) since it's listed on the festival website. If not, there's a very roundabout bus journey which would involve catching the 10.45am #343 service from Sixmilebridge to Limerick, then the 12.25pm #51 bus from Limerick to Ennis and finally the 2pm #348 service from Ennis to Feakle, arriving at 2.55pm. I'd be tempted to hitch!
Ta for the info Cathy + 'Floss'.
I think that camping is out of the question when flying to Shannon / then public transport / living out of a rucksack+ carrying instuments ! May just spend first night in airport - and trust 'bound to find something' once there. Other options seem expensive and /or complicated!
Ireland is not a place to come to if you are short of money! Everything is expensive here. Try hitching, more direct and ur sure to get a lift. And bring plenty of money!
