Hello. I posted some time ago about getting a new fiddle. I was looking for one to play in the All-Ireland, but given how close it is, I'm not entirely sure I'll have gotten used to it by the time of the competition arrives. That said, it doesn't change the fact that I'm still looking. I've finally managed to book a trip off the island to Ireland next week and I was wondering about Crehan's. I saw from another forum that there was a rumour it was closing down, but it says business as usual on the website. So my next question is how easy is it to get to, bearing in mind I won't have a car?! Thanks in advance.
As far as I know, the shop is now gone. If it is still around, and in Drumcondra, then its a bitch to find. You could get a bus to Collins Avenue. I think the estate is off the avenue somewhere. But it took me ages to find it, driving around numerous estates, eventually finding it down a cul de sac.
As you probably know that message about business as usual was posted this month so I'd say they most likely are open. You could phone in advance just to make sure.
As for directions the best way to get there is by taking a bus from O'Connell Street outside Penny's shop. Number 123.
Ask the bus driver to stop when he turns onto Griffith Avenue.
Walk to the left and up Glandore Road. Turn left walk a few steps and you're at the shop. Good luck.
there was some signs that it was going to close down due to changing of hands, but that is all resolved and it is back open. you can take my word for it.
the best way to get there is to go down griffith avenue extension, go through the cross roads where the regency airport hotel is (that should be on the road going left if you are walking the right way, but don't turn left down that road, keep going straight). go down griffith avenue until you reach grace park road, this is another cross roads there will be signs for grace park road. turn left into a row of houses. take the first right there should be a housing estate with columns at the entrance on the left hand side of the road at this right. go down this road, it is a dead end and crehans should be on your right at the very bottom.
Thanks for all your directions and help. I reckon it's a taxi job unless I'm feeling brave! It's one thing finding your way on the IOM...! Somebody sent me a link actually for a programme on iplayer not so long ago. I think it was about the Crehan's. Originally shown on TG4 I think.

That's great news Tradmoosic that Crehan's has re-opened. This has to be one of the best music shops in Ireland!
