"Have you heard Arrah Wanna? If not you have missed a treat.
It is without doubt the greatest number ever published."
(Lyrics)
Mid the wild and wooly prairies lived an Indian maid,
Arrah Wanna, queen of fairies of her tribe afraid,
Each night came an Irish buck, with a wedding ring...
Re: Arrah Wanna; An Irish Indian matrimonial venture
Why do you need ABC, when you've got stave ?
Ok, it is in Eb, but easily transposed down a semitone.
As SO commented "What pair of unlikely ethnic groups can we combine? Hence...Alien versus Predator......".
Re: Arrah Wanna; An Irish Indian matrimonial venture
*ahem* Not so unlikely -- my husband happens to be Irish / Indian. People are often surprised when they meet him because he doesn't really LOOK like a Mulcahy...
Re: Arrah Wanna; An Irish Indian matrimonial venture
Well, our family is Channel Island/American; how many others are there like us ? SO bumped into one years ago, in our local park - husband was from Alderney, partner was, she said and why should we doubt her "the last of the Supremes". Beats our story hands down.
SO tells how, as a child, she was taken to a Native American ( that was probably the correct description at the time ) Reservation on the eastern end of Long Island, NY, where she and her brother caused some parental embarrassement by pointing out some of the residents looked more African-American than Native. She was correct; during the underground railroad period some escaped slaves couldn't be bothered to go all the way to Canada, and found the Reservation discrete and isolated enough for safety, stayed and intermarried.
As Pete Seeger once wrote "I think we're all mixed up."
Re: Arrah Wanna; An Irish Indian matrimonial venture
FWIW, here's the abc - maybe it's easier to email, that's why you want it? Not much going on melodically really, it seems to be trying to capture the stereotypical tomtom beat. Please don't enter it into the tunes data base!

We sing this almost every week at the local session. Does anyone have ABC?

That's hilarious. She's looking at him with just about the right amount of amused contempt.
And what's that collection of wind instruments he's toting around?
